Cameras

I’ve accumulated many cameras over the years, most of them I still have. In the film era it was mostly Pentax SLR’s although I did have some Olympus, Canon and Konica rangefinders. The ones I periodically use now are a Pentax MZ6 and a Konica Hexar

Since transitioning to digital in 2006 I have accumulated Nikon dslr’s. In the mirrorless period it has been Lumix and a lone Sony a6400. Currently I’ve been using a Lumix G9 and the Sony a6400. If I’m going to an event where people are more comfortable with the presence of cameras I’ll take a Lumix S5ii or Nikon D750.

My preferred camera for street photography is probably the Sony. It’s small, light with apsc sensor and the rear screen is a tilt up. I also use the Lumix G9 but I really dislike the flip out screen and seldom use it. What I do like about the G9 is how I can customize it and save the setup to its custom settings. On the a6400 I use a Viltrox 25mm (37mm) and on the G9 a OMsystems 25mm ii (50mm).

If I was in the market for a replacement camera for street I would consider the Fujifilm XT30 iii. It has the older xtrans sensor but the newest processing engine. For me a 25mp sensor is ideal, the newer 40mp sensor generates larger files that start to present a problem handling and storing. The camera also has a tilt screen more suited to street photography.

Printers

I have two of them, an Epson R3000 and Canon Pro100. Currently I’m using InkOwl ink in both of them. In the past I’ve used Precision Colors ink. Since Canon doesn’t support Linux and Epson only partially I use a third party driver provider called TurboPrint. TurboPrint includes a print plugin for Gimp which I use exclusively for all my photo printing.
